Technically a "pallet" is just
one type of platform used to
store and move
goods. The platform plus the product is called
the "Unit Load"
If this Unit Load is regularly
priced and ordered in
this configuration, then
it is assigned a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). This
is most prevalent in
the grocery business. If it is not bought and sold as a
unit load, then it is a
"Logistics Unit", and it gets a Serial Shipping
Container Code (SSCC) in a
UCC/EAN-128 Symbol on a label.
The SSCC usually goes on the UCC
Common Shipping Label. It can also be marked with an SSCC in Electronic
Product code (EPC) format and
written to an RFID Tag.
